The University of Ruhuna is pleased to announce the visit of the USBus (Mobile American Space), an initiative of the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, on 17โ€“18 June 2026. The USBus is designed to bring educational and cultural opportunities directly to students through a range of interactive and engaging activities.

    During the two-day programme, students will have the opportunity to participate in sessions focused on leadership development, STEM education, American English language learning, and entrepreneurship. The USBus experience will provide access to innovative digital tools, educational resources, and hands-on learning activities that encourage creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.

    This programme aims to equip students with valuable skills and global perspectives that will support their academic, professional, and personal development. Participation is completely free of charge, with all activities and resources provided by the U.S. Embassy. All students are warmly invited to visit the USBus and take advantage of this unique learning opportunity.

    The Centre for International Affairs (CINTA) successfully hosted a Fulbright awareness programme on 20th April 2026, aimed at promoting higher education and research opportunities in the United States. The sessions were conducted by Dr. Patrick McNamara, Director of the United Statesโ€“Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission, together with Program Officer Mr. Shanaka Premarathne.

    The programme featured two focused sessions tailored to different audiences. The morning session was conducted for postdoctoral researchers and academic staff, providing detailed insights into the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program. Participants were introduced to opportunities for collaborative research, professional development, and academic exchange with leading institutions in the United States.

    The second session, held in the afternoon, targeted junior lecturers and final-year undergraduate students. This session focused on the Fulbright Masterโ€™s Program, covering eligibility criteria, application procedures, and key elements of a competitive application. The session attracted a large and enthusiastic audience, reflecting the growing interest in international postgraduate study opportunities.

    Both sessions were highly interactive, allowing participants to engage directly with the Fulbright representatives and clarify queries related to the application process and programme benefits. The event was well received, and participants expressed appreciation for the valuable guidance and insights shared.

    This initiative strengthens international academic engagement at the University of Ruhuna and raises awareness of globally recognized scholarship opportunities among its academic community.

    A five-member delegation from the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences visited University of Ruhuna on 04th November 2025 to explore collaborative opportunities in the field of nursing education. The discussions centered on establishing student and academic exchange programmes, aiming to foster global partnerships and enrich professional development.

    The delegates met with the Vice Chancellor along with the Director of CINTA, Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, and academics attached to the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.

    This visit marks a significant step toward strengthening international academic ties between University of Ruhuna and the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences

     

     


    The University of Ruhuna was honored to host Her Excellency Dewi Gustina Tobing, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Sri Lanka, on 07th October 2025.

    During her visit, H.E. Ambassador Tobing met with Senior Professor P.A. Jayantha, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, along with the Deans of Faculties and Director Center for International Affairs Senior Professor Vajira P. Bulugahapitiya. The meeting focused on enhancing academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding between Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

    Following the official meeting, H.E. The ambassador delivered an insightful presentation to the university students, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Indonesia and the evolving bilateral relations between Indonesia and Sri Lanka. The session was well attended by students and faculty members, sparking enthusiastic dialogue on regional cooperation and educational partnerships.

    The University of Ruhuna extends its sincere appreciation to H.E. Dewi Gustina Tobing and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia for this meaningful engagement and looks forward to fruitful collaborations in the future.

     

     

     


    A delegation from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia, visited the
    University of Ruhuna on 29th September 2025 to strengthen academic and research
    collaboration between the two universities.

    The delegation was welcomed by Senior Professor Vajira P. Bulugahapitiya, Director of the
    Centre for International Affairs (CINTA), and met with the Vice Chancellor of UoR. Deans,
    Directors, and academic coordinators also joined the discussions to explore new
    opportunities for joint research and academic cooperation.

    Prof. Sudhira De Silva, UoR Coordinator for the RMITโ€“UoR Cotutelle PhD Program,
    presented details of the ongoing PhD Program. Prof. Sujeeva Setunge, Associate Deputy Vice
    Chancellor for Research and Innovation at RMIT, spoke about existing collaborations and the
    way forward. The Vice Chancellor of UoR and Prof. Calum Drummond, Deputy Vice
    Chancellor (Research & Innovation) of RMIT, emphasized the importance of continuing this
    partnership.

    Presentations were made on possible collaborations in food technology, agriculture, and
    marine sciences by Prof. Jayani Chandrapala (RMIT), Prof. Guttila Jayasinghe
    (Dean/Agriculture,UoR), and Prof. K.H.M.A. Deepananda (Dean/FMST,UoR). An open
    discussion followed, moderated by Prof. Chaminda Karunasena, Dean of the Faculty of
    Engineering.

    After the discussions, the delegation visited the laboratories of the Faculty of Science,
    Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology and the Chinaโ€“Sri Lanka Joint Centre for
    Education and Research. The visit concluded with a cultural show organized by the Cultural
    Centre of the University of Ruhuna.
    This visit further strengthened the long-standing partnership and research collaboration
    between RMIT and the University of Ruhuna.
