A delegation from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia, visited the
    University of Ruhuna on 29th September 2025 to strengthen academic and research
    collaboration between the two universities.

    The delegation was welcomed by Senior Professor Vajira P. Bulugahapitiya, Director of the
    Centre for International Affairs (CINTA), and met with the Vice Chancellor of UoR. Deans,
    Directors, and academic coordinators also joined the discussions to explore new
    opportunities for joint research and academic cooperation.

    Prof. Sudhira De Silva, UoR Coordinator for the RMIT–UoR Cotutelle PhD Program,
    presented details of the ongoing PhD Program. Prof. Sujeeva Setunge, Associate Deputy Vice
    Chancellor for Research and Innovation at RMIT, spoke about existing collaborations and the
    way forward. The Vice Chancellor of UoR and Prof. Calum Drummond, Deputy Vice
    Chancellor (Research & Innovation) of RMIT, emphasized the importance of continuing this
    partnership.

    Presentations were made on possible collaborations in food technology, agriculture, and
    marine sciences by Prof. Jayani Chandrapala (RMIT), Prof. Guttila Jayasinghe
    (Dean/Agriculture,UoR), and Prof. K.H.M.A. Deepananda (Dean/FMST,UoR). An open
    discussion followed, moderated by Prof. Chaminda Karunasena, Dean of the Faculty of
    Engineering.

    After the discussions, the delegation visited the laboratories of the Faculty of Science,
    Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology and the China–Sri Lanka Joint Centre for
    Education and Research. The visit concluded with a cultural show organized by the Cultural
    Centre of the University of Ruhuna.
    This visit further strengthened the long-standing partnership and research collaboration
    between RMIT and the University of Ruhuna.

    The Deputy High Commissioner of India, Dr. Satyanjal Pandey, visited the University of Ruhuna on
    Tuesday, 16th September 2025
    During his visit, the Deputy High Commissioner engaged in discussions with the Vice Chancellor, Snr
    Prof. P.A. Jayantha, the Deans and Heads of Departments representing all faculties on fostering
    academic partnerships and exploring avenues for collaborative research between University of
    Ruhuna and Indian universities.
    Dr. Pandey was accompanied by Mr. Harvinder Singh, Consul General of the Consulate of India in
    Hambantota.
    The delegation visited the Department of Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture of the Faculty
    of Engineering, and the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology, where they observed
    the facilities and ongoing academic activities.

    Signing of MoU between Cochin University of Science and Technology ( CUSAT) and University of Ruhuna on 15th June 2023

    An MoU was signed between University of Ruhuna and the Cochin University of Science and Technology, India on the 15th of June 2023 in the Senate room of the University. The two Vice Chancellors of the Institutes signed this MoU in the presence of MR. Dipin P.R. the Consular General of India in Hambantota, Deans of Faculties, and other dignitaries from the two institutions & the Consulate General of India in Hambantota.

    This MoU will enable student and staff exchange between the two institutions and research in the field of Marine Sciences.

    Meeting of the Vice Chancellor with the delegation from Hokkaido Bunkyo University, Japan

    A delegation from the Hokkaido Bunkyo University of Japan visited University of Ruhuna on 27th of September 2023. The Japanese team consisted of

    The Japanese delegation engaged in discussions with the Vice Chancellor on extending the collaboration with the Hokkaido Bunkyo University and University of Ruhuna.

    Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka He Mizukoshi Hideaki visited the University of Ruhuna on 17th May 2023.

    The Japanese Ambassador HE Mizukoshi Hideaki accompanied by several other delegates from the Embassy of Japan visited the University of Ruhuna on 17th May 2023.

    HE Mizukoshi Hideaki and the delegation was welcomed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Saman Chandana Ediriweera and the Director of CINTA Prof. P.B. Terney Pradeep Kumara.  A formal meeting was conducted at the Vice Chancellor’s office with the participation of the Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna Most venerable Dr. Akuretiye Nada.

    The close relationship between Japan and Sri Lanka through Buddhism was emphasized during the discussions.

    Followed by the discussions Ambassador planted a tree commemorating his visit to the University and participated in a sightseeing tour at the University premises.

    Prof. H.D. Karunarathne the Vice Chancellor of University of Colombo was also present for the occasion.

    On the 18th of May ambassador Hideaki attended the International Symposium on Agriculture and Environment (ISAE 2023) organized by the Faculty of Agriculture as the Guest of Honour.
