The National Sports Festival – Southern Province Taekwondo Championship 2026, organized by the Ministry of Sports, was successfully held on 25th May 2026 at the Dadalla Indoor Stadium. The championship served as a key selection trial for athletes representing the Southern Province at the 2026 National Sports Festival.

    Bringing pride to the University of Ruhuna, K.P.G.S. Sandaruwan of the Faculty of Technology delivered an outstanding performance by securing the Gold Medal in the Men’s Kyorugi (58 kg–63 kg Weight Category). His achievement reflects exceptional skill, determination, and dedication to the sport.

    This remarkable accomplishment highlights the athlete’s commitment, discipline, and perseverance while demonstrating the continued growth and development of Taekwondo at the University of Ruhuna. Such achievements further reinforce the University's commitment to promoting sporting excellence alongside academic success.

    University of Ruhuna Athletes Shine at National Taekwondo Poomsae Championship 2026

    The National Taekwondo Poomsae Championship 2026, organized by the Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation, was successfully held on 09th and 10th May 2026 at the Wathupitiwala Indoor Stadium. The championship served as a key selection trial for the 2026 National Taekwondo Squad and attracted talented athletes from across the country.

    Bringing great pride to the University of Ruhuna, three undergraduate athletes delivered outstanding performances and secured national-level achievements in their respective categories.

    D.S. Samaraweera from the Faculty of Engineering won the Gold Medal in the Women’s Poomsae – Green Belt Category, while S.D.C.R. Perera from the Faculty of Science claimed the Gold Medal in the Men’s Poomsae – Green Belt Category. In addition, D.G.S.P. Jayasooriya earned the Gold Medal in the Men’s Poomsae – Yellow Belt Category, demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication.

    These remarkable accomplishments reflect the commitment, discipline, and perseverance of the athletes, as well as the continued growth and development of Taekwondo at the University of Ruhuna. Their success further highlights the University's commitment to fostering sporting excellence alongside academic achievement.
